Rallycross Superstar Bakkerud is Rallydays Latest Recruit

Norwegian driver Andreas Bakkerud will drive M-Sport’s Ford Fiesta R5 in a rare rally outing at Saturday’s (September 23) Rallyday at Castle Combe.

The 25-year-old, a six-time winner in the FIA World Rallycross Championship, is one of motorsport’s hottest young talents. And he’s a rally fan. Saturday will be his first appearance at Europe’s biggest one-day rally show.

“M-Sport builds our Ford Focus RSRX race cars and the test car is already down to visit Rallyday as a static display – I’m stoked to be joining it!” said Bakkerud. “I’ve heard quite a lot about it and I know there are some really special cars there, so I’m looking forward to the chance to walk around and take a look at those as well as doing some driving myself.”

Entertaining the fans is a vital part of Rallyday and entertainment is something which comes naturally to Andreas – hardly surprising given that he’s part of World RX squad Hoonigan Racing.

Hoonigan Racing is run by internet sensation and top rally and rallycross driver Ken Block.

“I think every driver loves sliding the car and doing some drifting and maybe some donuts,” said Bakkerud, “and that’s what I’m looking forward to on Saturday.

“At the same time, I’m really happy to be jumping in M-Sport’s R5 car. We all know what M-Sport is and what an incredible job they do making rally cars – the chance to drive one of those is fantastic for me.”

Rallyday’s Tom Davis said Bakkerud’s arrival demonstrated the broad appeal of Saturday’s Castle Combe event.

“Andreas is a driver with huge enthusiasm and passion for what he does and we’re so pleased to have him with us,” said Davis. “Naturally, we love having rally drivers, but bringing guys in from another area of the sport – especially an area demonstrating the sort of rapid growth that the FIA World Rallycross Championship is – is brilliant for us.

“We welcome Andreas and look forward to seeing the sort of entertaining driving which keeps us rooted to our seats in front of every World RX round.”

As well as driving the M-Sport Fiesta R5, Andreas will be interviewed through the day and sign autographs on the Cooper Tires stand.

Tickets are available for Rallyday on the gate, priced £25. Under-17s get in free and rally car rides are available for £30.
